The injury that changed everything: How a torn ligament helped me break free from £50K debt and chronic self-sabotage
Sometimes the biggest breakthroughs come when life forces us to stop.
Back in 2018, I had stopped running. For almost two years, in fact.
It was frustrating because I loved running. It cleared my mind, energised my body, and made me feel strong and present in myself.
But like many coaching entrepreneurs, I had become caught up in the pressure of building my business.
And every time the pressure to make it work mounted, the first thing to go was always my self-care.
My wellbeing took a back seat and I stopped listening to my body. All I was focused was making money and I was busy being busy, and always chasing results (and ironically always feeling behind!)
It wasn’t until I was working with my own coach that she lovingly but firmly held the mirror up:
“You need to get back to running.”
She was right. I missed it so much, and it was the one thing that was constantly in the back of my mind.
So I laced up my trainers and got back out there. And it felt amazing. For two glorious weeks, I felt like myself again! I was BACK! I felt strong, vibrant, and high with life!
And then… BAM.
I twisted my ankle on a loose rock. The pain was searing and I had to hobble all the way back home. By the evening the pain was unbearable, and because I couldn’t drive, I ordered a taxi to take me to the A& E at Leeds General Infirmary.
It was nothing serious. A torn ligament. But it meant I was out of action.
I was gutted. Angry and confused.
Why had the very thing I had finally returned to, the thing that was working, snatched away so quickly.
As I lay there, ankle elevated I kept returning to the question:
How had I attracted this??
Then, loud and clear, the answer came through - deeply uncomfortable but completely obvious and undeniable.
The injury wasn’t random.
It was a reflection of the belief I’d been carrying for years:
“I never stick at anything.”
Suddenly I saw evidence of this chronic belief everywhere:
The stack of half-read books.
The online courses I’d started but never completed.
The bursts of motivation followed by self-abandonment.
The feast or famine money patterns that kept circling back, no matter what strategies I tried.
The ankle injury became physical evidence of that belief.
This was a turning point realisation!
Because when you see the pattern clearly, you finally have the power to break it.
I began doing the deep inner work. Not surface-level mindset affirmations, but a real rewiring of my beliefs and behaviours.
I began choosing differently and building a new identity, one in which I was able to keep to my commitments to myself.
And from that place, I did what I never thought I could:
✅ I cleared over £50K of debt
✅ I rebuilt my relationship with self-discipline, and they became my “Blissciplines”
✅ I created real momentum in my business, with consistent visibility
✅ I stopped chasing success and started embodying it
All because I finally stopped and scrutinised my results, and what they were truly reflecting back to me.
If you're the woman who shows up for everyone else but keeps breaking promises to herself...
If your business feels like a constant push, and you can’t figure out why the results aren’t matching the effort...
Let me say this gently and with love:
It’s most likely because something deeper is running the show.
Your outer results are always a reflection of your inner frequency, and the moment you shift what’s going on inside, the results outside start to change.
This is the work we now guide our clients through:
Breaking the patterns. Releasing the self-sabotage.
Becoming visible. Becoming wealthy. Becoming the version of you who’s already thriving from the inside out.
That torn ligament in 2018 was the very moment I began to reclaim my power to choose, and rewrite my story.
And I’ve never looked back.
With love,
Sanae x
